For Lifeworks Torre Abbey is an excellent accessible and inclusive venue
Lifeworks Young Adult Saturday Social (YASS) enjoyed a beautiful day at Torre Abbey. The Lifeworks group have been using a meeting and recreational space (The learning Lab) at the Abbey for a number of years. Having forged a community and holidays working programme relationship back in 2017. It is a superb venue, with award-winning gardens which are the pride of Torbay and a real oasis of calm away from the busy seafront as well as being Torbay’s most historic building.
Importantly for lifeworks, Torre Abbey is an excellent accessible and inclusive venue, where the group are always made to feel at ease and at home, which makes their weekend visits and trips even more memorable. It was also lovely that the group were back in the gardens of Torre Abbey having worked with the Head Gardener in 2021 to get the gardens ready for the summer.

Lifeworks achievement Awards
After lunch we finally had the opportunity to hand out some well-deserved awards, that had been delayed due to Covid. Two arts awards were presented to Oscar and Nina for achieving their level 1 in the Arts from Trinity College London as well as a Challenge UK Youth Award to Lucy. Congratulations from everyone at Lifeworks for your great endeavours and achievements.

Lifeworks Adult Saturday Youth Group voting
Earlier in the day the Lifeworks Youth group also had to elect new leaders for the group and a subcommittee. It was very much in theme in what is occurring in politics right now and a great way to show the wheels of democracy in action and a gentler process. There was a Question Time style event, with candidates giving speeches why their fellow YASS members should be their leaders and how they would get some of their favourite activities on the Lifeworks Holiday and community programme. All votes were cast in a secret ballot box, with Lucy and Joseph successfully becoming the new Prime Ministers and Sam and Ella being elected to the cabinet.
