Lifeworks Summer Holiday Project (Week 1 & 2)

Lifeworks mission is to support people with learning disabilities to have a great life.

A flying start to Lifeworks summer holiday project

The first two weeks of the lifeworks Summer Holiday Project have begun with a flying start. The group headed off to try their hand at Coasteering at Start Point, with the wonderful team from Adelong Adventures. It was an excellent activity for developing team work, leadership and communication skills as well as being fun! Everybody participating experienced an exciting, challenging and rewarding time. Shouts of “I’m an adventurer”! and “Holy Moly” could be heard as the team members jumped into the sea. It was a truly fantastic day and the smiles said it all.

Pizza Making, Mindfulness & More

The first week included a number of other activities, all lots of fun and used the 5 Steps to Mental Wellbeing as a framework for the programme. The Lifeworks group made beautiful fresh pizzas with Pizzalogica, (a small, independent, family-run business located in the heart of Dartington) Also, a delicious vegetable stew was created with tomatoes and courgettes harvested that morning at the Apricot Centre, which is a wonderful environment for a warm and effective mental health/wellbeing service.

The Lifeworks Summer Holiday group have also had time to fit in a talent show, a keep fit session with bucket basketball, yoga and hula-hoop. All this plus mindful crafting with the wonderful Stacey from the Children’s Society. It’s been a delightful start to the lifeworks Summer Holiday Programme and we would like to thank all our partners and supporters as well the Devon Holiday Activities and Food Programme

We are looking forward to the next couple of weeks and keeping you up to date on all the up and coming Lifeworks Summer Holiday Project activities.

Our Community Projects are co-designed by the young people themselves. Our young people should decide what their tomorrow looks like. So, with their ideas, hopes and aspirations we work with a network of local community partners to make it happen. Whether you already join us on Community Programmes or are new and interested in giving something a go – we would love to hear from you.
