Residential Care in Torbay

Sesame is situated in Torquay which makes the beach and countryside as well as local leisure venues easily accessible for recreation, community connection and learning.

Sesame has four bedrooms with private facilities, a large communal living room, dining room, kitchen, conservatory and vibrant sensory garden. It is designed to be, and feels very much like a family home. This is space for varied activities as well as relaxing in a safe and secure environment.

Sesame is located in a leafy residential area of Torquay, close to shops and on a bus route. It is important for the young people living at Sesame to access the resources and social networks in the local. They are valued members of our community and we help them to connect and be connected.

There is an active programme of activities to take part in including; football, cooking, shopping, gaming, and singing in a local choir. The activities are set up on an individual and group basis depending on the individual wishes of each person. Friendships can develop and we support house bonding. We provide communal social activities but there is never any expectation for anyone to take part them if they don’t want to.

How We Work

We work alongside our residents, their relatives, health and education professionals to develop care plans that place them at the centreWorking together we create a rich framework of support build on respect. We strive for Sesame to be open, positive and inclusive and for residents to participate in all aspects of life in the home. We are proud that Sesame feels very much like a family home.

We want the people living a Sesame to play an active role in the house. Domestically this means increasing people’s ability with daily living; from preparing meals independently and washing clothes to budgeting, using public transport, shopping and handling money. We also include our residents in appropriate staff meetings. Consulting with them about how Sesame is run to help us constantly improve things with their feedback.
