About Lifeworks College

We are based in Dartington within the beautiful South Hams area of South Devon. Our location offers students a range of opportunities, with Totnes and the Dartington Estate on our doorstep. Plymouth, Exeter, Newton Abbot and the South Devon Coast are all a short journey away and offer many opportunities for learning and connection.

A Specialist Further Education College

Lifeworks College is a specialist further education college that is focused on meeting the individual needs of students. Their best futures are at the heart of what we do.

Our key goal as a College is to provide opportunities for learning so that students are confident and equipped to enter their adult lives with more independence and opportunity. Through the achievements they make with us and the skills they develop, they will better understand themselves and where they are headed.

We equip students with confidence across many areas; from sports to the arts as well as within themselves and with others. Students will leave Lifeworks College better equipped to lead safe, happy and fulfilled lives.

Lifeworks College Philosophy and Values

All of our students have the ability to become active and valued members of their adult communities. We support learners to gain the independence, skills and understanding necessary to enable this to happen.

We believe workplaces are richer when employing people with disabilities and are passionate in helping businesses to achieve this. There are many opportunities for all students to gain long term work placements when learning with us. Another key aim of the college programme is to place students on to a path leading to paid employment on leaving college.

Our Students

Lifeworks College is open to students from the age of 16 – 24 with a learning disability. There is no academic entry requirement, and students join us from both special and mainstream schools with an accompanying Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Students will need to demonstrate a willingness and potential to progress and participate in long term supported work placements.

Lifeworks College Curriculum

Our college site is a light and spacious space giving students a place to learn in a welcoming environment. Lifeworks College encourages and supports our learners to be independent and take pride in their work.

Every Lifeworks student has their own individual learning journey which is supported by a rich and rewarding curriculum. Alongside this, our supported work placements can be the key to helping our students enter the workforce on leaving college.

Our study programmes are taught with reference to the student’s everyday life and preparation for their adult life. Courses are also underpinned by the development of functional literacy, communication, numeracy and IT skills.

Lifeworks College Admissions

You should discuss your views on further education and the options available at all school review meetings. Ensure you include the school’s careers adviser as they are responsible for completing assessments for future education placements. When the Local Authority gets in touch with us regarding a placement we will work with you and the student to carry out a suitability assessment. The assessment will be a combination of observation in College, a home-based assessment and a school visit.
