Breaking the Barrier Celebrates 10 Years!

This Saturday, 70 learning disabled young people and 50 of their family and friends came together to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of Breaking the Barrier – and their participation in Breaking the Barrier 2017 in style:

People have helped in so many ways – from bakers galore to stewarding worm charming officials, adventure sport providers working with inclusive sport providers, bands and DJ’s,  Healthwatch and NHS representatives, raffle and consultation facilitators, bikes trikes and bows, ice creams out front and lots and lots and lots of tea, cake and pastries being served ALL DAY upstairs.

Our very own guest star Paralympic tri-athlete Dave Hill made it a day to remember for all the young people– THANK YOU.

The Sport and Adventure themed raffle raised over £90 –  and we would like to say a huge thank you to all of these local businesses who kindly donated prizes:

The Boarding House, Exeter
Discovery Surf
Morrison’s, Totnes
The Shops at Dartington
Dartmouth Leisure Centre
Singing Drum

Overall we received a fantastic £280 in donations on the day – which will all go towards Breaking the Barrier 2018. Thank you so much for your generosity! Of course, this wasn’t the reason for running the event on Saturday. This is what it was all about:

“Our thanks to you and the team for a splendid afternoon at Dartington on Saturday. We much enjoyed ourselves. Special thanks: to the friendly staff and volunteers at the entrance and the café; Vinney the entertainer and the band. It was great to meet up with our friend Veronica again after a long while too. Best wishes from the Marks” Parent of BtB triathlon participant.

“Wanted to say thank you for today and all the wonderful things you all do for the children. We are so pleased to have found you guys – T has had the best summer and he so looks forward to the next. So Thank You from all of us.” Parent of 2 out of 3 BtB participants

“I wanted to thank you and your team for all the fun that S has had at your events this year – especially the surfing – and for the “party” on Saturday when Sam received his certificate. He is hoping that he will be able to join in next year again and we will try and publicise the events amongst his friends.” Parent of BTB participant
