This autumn young people involved with Lifeworks Community Projects with an interest in film making have come together to explore the idea of making an art film for Channel 4’s Random Acts. Over the past 3 months they have been working with Forkbeard Fantasy artist, Ed Jobling, to play with ‘art’ and ‘film’ and collect their ideas together for Calling the Shots, a Bristol-based production company so impressed with a taster workshop back in October half term, they commissioned a further two development workshops.
The young film makers have worked incredibly hard and after exploring several themes have elected to develop a proposal for Channel 4 to make an art film about their experience of becoming a young adult. They have been open, honest and brave – some getting in front of a camera for the very first time. They have agreed team roles, attracted expert volunteer support in the shape of a young film student from South Devon College and have begun to generate interesting material as they experiment with style and theme.
Their first two exploratory short films are being published today on our website. The latest film “uncomfortable” will be published in January as the young Film Makers submit their proposal to Calling the Shots – if Calling the Shots like their ideas they will commission a mentor to work with the Young Film Makers in the spring to ready their film for commission by Channel 4 in March 2017.
