Lifeworks Holiday Project: Summer School 2016

summer-ball-2

This Summer over 40 young people have canoed, kayaked, climbed, foraged, yomped, skipped, danced and DJ’d across South Devon and Torbay. They have become young broadcasters; cooks, designers, farmers, animators, cheerleaders, footballers and adventurers.

They all contributed to the creation of the Lifeworks Young People’s Summer Ball enjoyed by over 50 young people at the end of the Summer Holidays at the Barrel House. And they all tried something new; from braving the cinema for the first time thanks to Dartington arranging a relaxed screening at the Barn to coasteering at Meadfoot ably supported by Adelong Adventures.

It was a magical summer made very special by the amazing young people who participated and the dedication of our young volunteers and staff team who supported them all the way.

The creative energy of the young people attending the Lifeworks Holiday Project this summer has not gone unnoticed: Calling the Shots production company have commissioned a Development Workshop on the first Saturday in October half term for budding film makers – to find out more about this and the Lifeworks Holiday Project contact Sarah-Jane at Lifeworks.

Best bit: “Everything/Cheerleading/Coasteering”
New experience: “First time been to Ball J/jumping off cliff into sea/friends”
What next? “More than one Ball!/Baking/dancing/making a music video/more football and water-based activities”

“D loved the summer school; we are going through a tough time at the moment…it did him good to get his mind on other things…the scrap book helped him tell us about what he has done where before he would not, we are so grateful to Tim and Rich for picking him up as our car broke down – a very BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE.”

Lifeworks would like say a very big thank you too – to all the local organisations who made this year’s Summer School possible by providing low cost or no cost activities thoroughly enjoyed by all the young people: Play Torbay, The Barn Cinema, Dartington Trust, the Totnes Brewing Company, Dynamic Adventures, Dance in Devon, Dartington Dairy, Wild and Curious, Cockington Court, Adelong Adventures, Soundart Radio, Torquay United and Pumpitlouder and to Combe Pafford School for coming with us on the journey – THANK YOU.

And a final thank you to all the mums and dads who baked for and a very special fairy godmother that catered our Summer Ball!
