The Life Skills Academy had a busy time over the Easter holidays. There were lots of trips out and about. Walking on Dartmoor and trips to Paignton Zoo were very popular, but the most fun time – as voted for by the young people – was the Family Day sno-tubing session. For those of you that have never done sno-tubing – why not !?! You get to sit on a big rubber ring and whizz down over a big slope. It was a beautifully sunny day which was great for us but not for the slope. When it is dry and sunny the ride is pretty slow. A couple of the young people knew this and they convinced our instructor to turn the hose pipe on the slope. That sped things up !
Family Days are good fun. It is a chance for young people that have attended the Life Skills Academy to come along with their siblings, parents, carers and friends and enjoy some fun together. It is also a chance to talk about the many other opportunities that Lifeworks can offer a young person. But most of all… you get to have FUN !!!
The Life Skills Academy also welcomed back students from the past and ventured up onto Dartmoor. The idea was that the group would walk about half way up to Avon Dam. But when they reached the half way point, there was no stopping them! It was a continued climb until they reached the top and could see the wind blowing the water over the edge of the dam. Yes – it was a very windy day. The next stop was Princetown and the Dartmoor Visitor Centre. It was fun dressing up in all the scary masks that told the legends of witches and the hairy hand that are up on the Moors. But the best bit was finishing the day with a hot drink in the Fox Tor Café sat next to the open fire.
